The key to living longer could be to eat a healthy, balanced diet – including at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day – as well as regular exercise. But you could boost your life expectancy by regularly eating nuts, it’s been claimed.

Making some small diet or lifestyle changes could help to increase your life expectancy and avoid an early death.

Eating nuts every single day could help to protect against bowel cancer, according to nutritionists.

Peanuts are one of the best snacks for lowering your chances of the disease, claimed dietitian Juliette Kellow and nutritionist Dr Sarah Brewer.

A handful of peanuts everyday can lower your risk of bowel cancer by up to 58 percent, they said.

Nuts could also protect against a number of other conditions, including kidney disease and diabetes.

They may even lower your risk of infectious diseases by up to 75 percent.
