How Jenna Dewan Makes Time for Herself as a Mom of 2: It's 'Tough'

“It comes down to how can you find and create the most balance for yourself and your life,” the Flirty Dancing host, 39, said on Wednesday, August 26, while promoting her Renew Life probiotics partnership. “Being a mom, it’s really hard to find that time for myself. It’s just the honest truth. There’s so much going on this year. It’s been tough.”

The Gracefully You author added that she intentionally makes room for a workout, meditation and supplements during her 5-month-old son Callum’s first nap of the day.

“That’s been my biggest 2020 wellness tip. If I miss that and if I don’t give that to myself, the rest of life and days just spiral out, so I take care of myself first in the morning,” the former World of Dance host explained. “I’ve really been good about committing to that and then I sort of build on that and give to everyone else throughout the day. I have to boost myself in the mornings.”

The Connecticut native has “a lot going on” while quarantining amid the coronavirus pandemic with her fiancé, Steve Kazee, their son and her and Channing Tatum’s 7-year-old daughter, Everly, which has made Dewan extra mindful of her immune health.

Having a baby, a 7-year-old who goes back and forth through two homes [is hard],” the actress said. “We can’t control whether we’re gonna come in contact with COVID-19 necessarily, but we can control boosting our immune system to the level that we can. For me, I’m making sure I’m taking my supplements, getting as much rest and balance as I can.”

In addition to Renew Life’s probiotic products, the dancer called meditation a “game changer,” saying, “I do breathwork meditation, I do [transcendental meditation] style mantras, I do lots of things that sort of bring me back to a place of connection with myself.”

Dewan advised other parents to “give” to themselves in those ways despite mom guilt. “No matter what, carve out space and time for yourself even when you want to sleep or you want to say, ‘Oh, I want to take care of the babies,’” she said.
