Supermarket in Denmark charges £4 for one big hand sanitser and £122 for two

Sick of seeing no more loo roll, hand sanitiser, hand wash and the like?

Despite needing to be more hygienic than ever, it’s become very difficult to find the right resources during the coronavirus pandemic.

So one supermarket in Denmark has come up with a brilliant idea.

Rotunden, which prides itself on being on being one of the most beautiful and exclusive supermarkets has priced single hand sanitsiers at its normal price, 40 kroner (£4.92) for a large bottle.

But if you want to buy two, the price goes up to 1000 kroner (£122.93) to ward off those who want to stockpile.

This is the opposite of what most supermarkets offer where multi-buying makes the item cheaper.

But in times of hoarding, Rotunden has decided to flip the offer on its head.

After the store explained the move on its Facebook, many applauded the hack and urged other supermarkets around the world to incorporate it into their sales, especially for loo roll.

In a letter shared on Facebook, they outlined other measures to try to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Joining the likes of Lidl, Tesco, and McDonald’s, they also encouraged social distancing while shopping.

They said: ‘Dear customers, We have a great responsibility to keep the business running, and we can only do that with everyone’s help and understanding. I can help in the following way.

‘We ask all customers to respect the distance between each other and our co-workers.

‘Sprinkle (likely sanitize or wash) hands off at the entrance and use gloves;
If you are a family, please allow only one person to purchase the purchases if possible.

They added: ‘There may be times when we limit how many customers we accept in the store at one time. We will keep you informed about any operating changes on Facebook. Take care and thank you for your understanding.’

People commented saying: ‘Brilliant idea, instead of making multiples cheaper, all supermarkets should do this. It would stop panic buying’.

Another wrote: ‘Magnificent idea, we should do this in the UK, though the shelves are bare anyway. We could apply it to toilet roll, cans of soup, pasta, the essentials’.

One person agreed with the move but thought one bottle is still too expensive: ‘Amazingly simple idea that would be effective. Though 40kr for one hand sanitiser is overpriced’.

It’s certainly a welcome move.
