Wake Up & Find Inner Peace with Idris Elba, Nicole Kidman & More on HBO Max's New Show

It’s not news that we’re a stressed out group of people. Add in a global pandemic, political upheaval and all the other emotional and mental curve balls we’ve been thrown and we can all use a bit more mental health RnR and more opportunities to look after our tired brains (like meditation). The folks at Calm app (who most recently gave us a gentle sleep story narrated by Harry Styles), Nutopia (of NatGeo’s One Strange Rock) and HBO Max saw that need and delivered with their new show A World of Calm.

Combining chill “mesmeric imagery” and the voice talent of celebrities including Mahershala Ali, Idris Elba, Oscar Isaac, Nicole Kidman, Zoë Kravitz, Lucy Liu, Cillian Murphy, and Keanu Reeves, the 10 episode show represents the streaming platform’s first foray into wellness programming that feels like a logical evolution from Calm’s sleep stories — a chance to immerse yourself in a soothing, tranquil experience with a golden-voiced star as your guide.

“With the considerable amount of stress and chaos we are all experiencing at this particularly challenging time, we could all use a bit of guided relaxation and A World of Calm is here to help,” Jennifer O’Connell, executive vice president of non-fiction and kids programming for HBO Max said in a statement. “With soothing imagery and tranquil narration, this is one HBO Max original that we hope becomes part of your daily routine.”

Nutopia CEO and founder Jane Root says that the project has been in progress for a few months now but has been “entirely created during quarantine” through Nutopia’s cinematographers and filmmakers. So you know the calming visuals were made by folks dealing with the same cabin fever you’ve been wrestling with.

“These experiences are visual Valium and will help people relax and unwind during these stressful times,” Calm co-founder and co-CEO Michael Acton Smith said.

And, wow, do we hope they can follow through with that!
