The World Health Organization lists 13 symptoms of coronavirus, while the NHS lists three. The UK public are paying a heavy price for this discrepancy, warned Professor Tim Spector, co-founder of the ZOE Covid symptom study on Sky News. “We have been saying this for over a year now and it is disappointing that we are still saying it now.”
Professor Spector continues: “People are still getting infected without realising it and passing it on to others, increasing the burden on us economy and the health service.
“Almost every other country in the world has a larger list of symptoms.”
When asked about the specific symptoms associated with different variants, prof Spector explained how the answer is not straight-forward.
“The virus is changing now with the delta variant and people are getting vaccinated, which is also changing the symptoms.”
Another factor that can complicate the picture is that the UK is in summer, he added.
So, what are the new symptoms?
People are reporting cold-like symptoms, such as headache, runny nose, sneezing and sore throat, noted prof Spector.
A new, continuous cough – one of the classic three – is now less common.
It is ranked fifth behind the new cold-like symptoms, explained prof Spector.
