Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck treated their children to an outdoor movie night, a sign that the couple wants both their families to feel included in their newfound relationship.
According to Us Weekly, Lopez and Affleck each brought their kids to see an outdoor showing of the 2003 film School of Rock in Los Angeles. In attendance were Affleck’s daughter Violet, 15, and Seraphina, 12, whom he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, and Lopez’s twins, Max and Emme, 13, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony. Affleck and Garner’s son Samuel, 9, was not present.
Lopez and Affleck reunited this spring, 17 years after they ended their famous engagement, and they’ve been pictured with their children on outings to places like Universal Studies and the musical Hamilton. In July, sources told People that Lopez’s son Max and daughter Emme are “slowly getting to know” Affleck and that “everything seems to be running smoothly” as they looked for a home in Los Angeles.
It all seems like a clear indication that Bennifer is determined to make their relationship work, for themselves and their children.
“When you decide to join with an individual who also has children, this comes with a unique responsibility and should be taken seriously,” psychologist Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart told the Gottman Institute. “Ideally, you will have met, interacted with, and gotten to know the children in advance. However, if that didn’t happen, take a step back and be intentional about developing that relationship with their children. Prioritizing your relationship with your partner’s children sends a clear message of acceptance.”
